Anticipation

Saw a commercial for the new Doctor Who, CBC is will start airing the remake on April 5th. Their ad for it looks average. As a child my dad and I would regularly watch Doctor Who (most of my childhood nightmares were a direct result of the show, it was great). My love for sci-fi was birthed from episodes of the good doc and original Star Trek. For that reason alone I am looking forward to watching it, but somehow I think I am going to be disappointed.

Ah, Dr. Who... I remember him. Most of the time I never "got it". But I had a friend who loved it. Speaking of sci-fi remakes, the new Battlestar Galactica is amazing. Except for the sex.

Well most remakes of anything are at best sub-par now-a-days. I think one of the best remakes was Ocean's 11. But other then that they all chew on goats.

Thanks for the encouragement Robin. I have to say I am surprised that you weren’t a regular Who watcher. Dad and I had a talk about the show, we watched it regularly but he remembers not really getting it either. Most of the adventures didn't have a super deep plot. and it was a weird show, but weird can be good.

Jonny, so true that remakes on average are less then best. there are few exceptions Ocean’s 11 being one, I also think the Italian Job was decent remake.

About Doctor Who: the show was a BBC series which ran from 1963 to 1989, is the longest running sci-fi program. 26 seasons is pretty impressive. The story is about the Doctor who is apart of an alien race know as the Time Lords from the planet Gallifrey. He travels in a time machine (TARDIS) which looks like a blue British police box. The character was played by eight different actors…they had this weird thing that the Time Lords would be regenerate when killed (a kind of reincarnation) into a different person with a new personality.

I know this comment comes a little late, maybe, but I used to watch Dr. Who with my mom growing up. I never quite got it though.
